Exotica-Foreign | Mid-East Links below are to the Hyp Records guide to records & artists: Pertinent records listed & rated: See the Odd Pop section for the Truck Driver page for a list of all pertinent trucker records, Steel Guitar, & pages on related idioms. Unprecedented free resource -- use it or lose it! |
The Word: Is it even possible for corn-fed, "Hee Haw" music to be hip? Sure is, as old Starday-King (the latter being James Brown's first major label, after all) records prove handily. It's only contemporary country (blech!) that's guaranteed to be stuck in the trough of Squaresville. Old truck-driver songs are among the least-known and least-appreciated gems of true Americana, and, as no less a sagebrush swinger than Jello Biafra tells us, you gotta get hip to 'em. Comedy, sentiment, pathos, swinging tunes, hard living, law breaking, you name it! Trucker songs have it, and how. You'll find the very best of the lot plus great steel-guitar and even the odd rockabilly, country-western, etc. record of note (if it's too good to resist). Roll on.
Discounts (usually free mailing or $5 off per item) for all multi-item orders--buy 2 or more!
